Happy Halloween!

Halloween is my all time favorite holiday, as it is many people.
So of course having a child makes it all the more fun.  I've definitely put some
pressure on myself to come up with cute DIY costumes for Kennedy and start
planing months in advance. With the love I have for Halloween I couldn't
just go out and buy her a costume, it would just feel wrong.
Of course Pinterest is a great place to get ideas,
I originally wanted to make a ghost costume for Kennedy because she
would say "BOO, Scare me!" But every ghost costume I came across
was the same thing. So I thought what about a skeleton? I searched pinterest
for "little girl skeleton costumes" and nothing came up and I thought,
"Yup! We'll be the first!"

So I ventured to Old Navy and saw this skeleton sweatshirt in the boys section,
but it was a little to bulky. Then I turned around and staring me in the face
were pink skeleton pajamas with little floating hearts (and they glow in the dark!).
So I grabbed them, made a sparkly pink tutu to match and big pink bow headband.
I wanted to incorporate the skeleton into the head band so
I searched and searched for some kind of bone or skeleton to put on the bow,
I managed to find a pack of cupcake toppers that were skull heads, I just hot
glued it right in the middle of the bow and sprayed hair spray all over it, to
avoid it getting sticky. I really love how the costume came out,
she is ether a ballerina skeleton or a very girly skeleton.
Ether way she loves it!

Her scary face!

Declan's First Birthday session!

So I am very behind on my blog posts and I apologize for that, as
I said in some of my previous 365 posts, I don't really know where the
time is going. It's definitely going though.

I decided to post Declan's First birthday pictures, as we are into the
world series. I planed with Dana, Declan's mom to do a baseball
themed session at the park and I knew just the right park that had a
baseball field for us to use as well. Declan did such a great job with
his pictures as always, he's such a cutie. Maybe he thought it was his
lucky day, playing in dirt, eating a huge lolly pop, and getting cake.
I mean who wouldn't be happy?

365 time!

I know I've been MIA lately and there's plenty of good reasons for it.
If you haven't heard through Facebook, I announced last weekend that after
years of hard work I will finally be getting a studio space!
As exciting as this is, a lot of work and money is going into making this
studio all that it can be and perfect for my clients. I want people to feel
at home and comfortable, when they come with their little ones.
We've also been having a lot of family functions, with weddings and fall
activities. It's been really nice connecting with family and friends.
Holiday mini sessions are coming up soon and I'm planing and searching
everyday for the perfect settings. I'm pretty sure I have it all figured out,
but like with my wedding, when I thought it was done another idea
popped into my head!

I took out about 20 Halloween books back in September and keep
renewing them! I wanted to make sure we had first pick this year.

"Pink Tamera Please!"

My first baby. Love him so!

Pumpkin picking.

Oldest girl cousin and youngest.

The cousins :-)

Love how this shot came out.

Happy Fall!

Autumn is in full swing! 365 Project.

I was just going through what pictures I would use for this 365 post
and as I was going though them, a lot taken by my husband the other
day I thought, "Hey, I'll do a blog post about myself". The girl behind the
camera! My love for photography started at a very young age.
My great grandma was photographer, the days when
slides were in existence! She loved taking pictures of her animals and
roses. She also traveled all over taking pictures of the Grand Canyon
and my father in Hawaii. I unfortunately have never been to such exotic
places, but I did get her love of photography.

This is me! I'm a very visual person and have a photographic memory.
I can remember how to get some where after only going there once. I can
visually pose people for pictures when I'm behind the camera and know
what looks good, yet put me in front of the camera and I'm a total stiff!
I guess that's why god graced me with the visual talents.
Oh and my dancing skills... let's not even go there.

My husband.
You may have heard me talk about him or you may have even
met him, he sometimes helps me on sessions because I can't carry
everything myself or I need a hand with the reflector. He is a great help
and I hope he knows that ;-)
He is the total opposite of me. He's calm and quiet and can fall asleep
at the drop of a hat, while I'm loud and hyper and never sit still.
I started Come walk in my shoes photography 4 years ago
and he tells me every so often that he didn't think I would have made it this far.
I honestly didn't ether, but I can't tell you how blessed I am to have
found something that doesn't feel like work.

My Daughter.
Kennedy as some of you may know.
There was a time when I wasn't sure if I would ever have
my own child. She is my greatest gift from God and I am forever
thankful for a healthy crazy kid! I always knew that I wanted
to be a mother and it's everything I thought it would be.
Don't get me wrong we have our days, but the more children I
meet, around the same age as Kennedy the more I learn and see
that it's completely normal.  I stay home with Kennedy during the
week and do sessions on the weekend, so I don't have as much
time for sessions as I would if it was my full time job. That's
why it's so important to book ahead because my time is limited.

I believe in always finding the good or the positive in
every situation. This business isn't always easy, there is competition
every where and a misunderstanding that the money I make goes
directly to me. I advertise, I constantly buy new props, I need business
cards and envelops and ink to mail agreements. Every once in a while I
get a bad apple, someone who wants it all for nothing. That's just the
name of the game in the photography business, but for that one
bad apple I get 10 amazing, organic juicy apples and that is the positive!
Photography takes countless hours of editing and uploading, time is
not just spent at a session, I can spend days upon days brain storming
and shopping for the perfect props for each session. I had to save up to
buy my newest camera, and would love a new lens... at the price range of
$300-$600 I haven't quite put out the money for it yet.
Photography is something that everyone wants, but not many value.
Trust me, when the memories start to fade, bring out the pictures and
they will bring you right back.

233 & 234/365

It still amazes me that I can take a picture at one angle and then flip
my camera around and take the same picture, yet it looks and feels
totally different. I tend to take way to many pictures of the same thing to
ensure that I get my perfect shot.

Since having Kennedy, I've learned a lot. A lot about my perfectionism and
that it's not always going to be perfect and that it's okay! I almost feel
that since I let go a little my photography has improved. One of my favorite
quotes is "Strive for progress not perfection".

Lastly, I try my hardest to live in the moment. That's one thing I love about
cameras, their ability to take a single moment and capture it forever.
People come and go, and as I said before memories fade over time. Would you remember you Great Grandmother's face or any loved one after 20 years that they've been gone without a picture to look back on? If that's not valuable, I don't know what is.

Goodbye September! 365 Project.

The last days of September are gone and I couldn't be more excited!
I love Halloween, I love everything October. This year is going to be so
much fun with Kennedy, because she understands a lot more than last year.
She might be creeping on to Daddy's side and like Christmas better...
She gets pretty excited when she sees the Christmas lights and
trees up at the store.
This past weekend was filled with lots of families, all who I have taken pictures
of before. So it was so nice to catch up and see familiar faces.

Such a Diva!

After the mini sessions we had a family lunch in Montclair.

Telling secrets...

Fall baking has begun!

One word, Pumpkin.
